There is a great vegetarian community in Austin, including a variety of organizations, restaurants, retail shops, grocers and much more. Here are also some helpful sites for event planning.

Event Planning

Austin Wedding Guide- Here's a great directory of wedding and event venues in and around Austin. Here you can see the maximum capacity of various event venues, whether or not they allow outside catering, have indoor or outdoor seating and more! 

Park Lane Guest House- Are you looking for a cozy, welcoming and green place for you and your guests to stay? Try this bed and breakfast! They practice green living by using no harmful chemicals, and providing organic cotton linens. Be sure to give their organic vegetarian breakfast a try!

Community/Animal Welfare

Action for Animals- the local chapter of a nation wide organization, AFA does a lot in our community to bring relief and safety to animals in need. Check their site for upcoming social gatherings, and action campaigns.

Animal Trustees of Austin- non profit organization dedicated to reducing the pet overpopulation problem through low cost  spay/neuter surgeries and educational outreach. Trustees also offers wellness services, such as annual vaccinations, basic health exams and appropriate medications.

Restaurants/Grocers

Happy Cow- A self-described compassionate eating guide, providing information on veg-friendly restaurants and grocers. Just input your city or zipcode and they will show you all the places in your area to eat and shop.

Sunset Valley Farmers Market
- this is a great way to spend a Saturday morning. Browse local produce, admire handmade clothing and jewelry, and take in some fun local music!

Sun Harvest- a wonderfully small and intimate grocer with two locations in Austin. The staff is always friendly and helpful, offering advice and information. They carry a variety of vegan grocery items, and usually have great prices on locally grown produce.

VegGuide- Are you looking for a place to grab some vegan grub? This site can help you navigate the Austin veg scene. Heading out of town? They also have listings for vegetarian friendly food establishments all over the world!

Health/Nutrition

Physician's Committee for Responsible Medicine- PCRM is a nonprofit organization that promotes preventative medicine, conducts clinical research and encourages higher standards for ethics and effectiveness in research.


Organic Athlete
- an organization devoted to creating community among vegan athletes. You can find nutritional guides, fitness advice and open discussions with fellow vegan athletes.

Engine 2 Diet- a lifestlye and diet created and developed by one of Austin's finest, a local fireman by the name of Rip Esselstyn. Originating as a method for inmproving the health of his fellow firefighters, this diet has become widely popular, prompting plant strong groups to develop across the nation. His advice follows a mostly vegan diet, focusing on plant sources for your necessary nutrients and working to improve your heart health.
